There are moments in life when everything slows down — not because you planned it, but because you had to.

For me, that moment came during one of the worst phases of my personal life. I was mentally exhausted, emotionally drained, and just… lost.

Everything felt heavy. Life wasn’t making sense. Social media, especially Instagram, had become a constant reminder of things I wasn’t doing, success I wasn’t achieving, and a life I wasn’t living. It stopped being a tool and started becoming a burden.

So, I deactivated it.

It sounds simple, but it wasn’t. That button meant pulling myself out of a world I had grown used to — a world full of noise, validation, comparison, and pressure. But once I stepped away, I began to see things more clearly.

That one decision became the most important pivot of my life.


From Silence to Curiosity

In that stillness, I rediscovered my curiosity.

I started reading again — not for trends, but for truth. About startups, branding, emerging companies, and funding journeys. Coming from a background in private company research, I had always found those stories fascinating — how ordinary people built extraordinary things.

That curiosity led me to something that looked like a golden ticket: Dropshipping.


What Is Dropshipping, Anyway?

If you're not familiar with the term, dropshipping is a retail model where the store doesn’t keep the products it sells in stock. Instead, when a customer places an order, the store purchases the item from a third-party supplier (usually overseas — often China), who then ships it directly to the customer.


The Temptation of Dropshipping

Dropshipping promised everything a new entrepreneur dreams of:

  • No inventory.
  • No upfront investment.
  • Just products, suppliers, and clever marketing.

It sounded almost too good to be true. And maybe that should’ve been a red flag.

Still, I dove in.

I sourced streetwear clothing from Chinese manufacturers, built a store, and ordered some samples.

But then the real problems surfaced.


Where It All Fell Apart

The first issue was about sizing.

Turns out, what fits in China doesn’t fit the average Indian body. Then came issues with quality — fabrics didn’t feel the way they looked in photos. Shipping took forever. And as the founder, I had zero control over anything.

It wasn’t my product.

Nor my voice.

Not even my brand — just someone else’s clothes with my logo slapped on.

I realized I was building on sand. And the moment the tide came in, it all crumbled.


The Hard Truth About Dropshipping in Fashion

What I learned — painfully — is that dropshipping doesn’t work when you’re trying to build something meaningful, especially in clothing.

Why?

Fashion is personal. It’s not like dropshipping phone cases. People wear your product on their skin — it’s emotional, expressive, and intimate. And if you can't control the quality or experience, you’re not building a brand — you’re just moving product.

Out of failure came clarity — a true vision began to emerge.

I remembered why I ever wanted to start something at all:
